Dr. Peter Millett, orthopedic shoulder surgeon and sports medicine specialist often lectures on the prevention of sports-related injuries

Dr. Peter Millett, orthopedic shoulder surgeon and sports medicine specialist often lectures on the prevention of sports-related injuries.  The U.S. Centers for Disease Control states that nearly 30 million children and adolescents participate in youth sports in the United States each year. Youth sports injuries have increased in recent years as young children start playing sports younger and train harder.
According to the website STOP (Sports Trauma Overuse and Prevention), there is a growing epidemic of preventable youth sports injuries that sideline countless young athletes. It is estimated that more than 3.5 million of these kids under the age of 14 receive medical treatment for sports injuries each year, a large majority of which are caused by overuse.
In April of 2011, Dr. Millett was invited to speak to parents, coaches, athletes and trainers on the subject of  “Staying in the Game for Life: Sports and Sports Medicine and their Effects on our Children!”  The highly anticipated and well-attended event took place at Vail Valley Medical Center and addressed the prevention of youth sports injuries.
